A STUDY OF SOCIO-ECONOMIC CHARACTERISTICS OF THE TOURISTS, PROBLEMS AND PROSPECTS: A CASE STUDY OF SALEM DISTRICT.
In the present study both primary and secondary data are used. The analysis will enable a better understanding of the significance of Tourism in Salem district. It is quite clear that both domestic and foreign tourists are visiting Salem and Yercaud. The Yercaud is a pleasant hill station endowed with the beauty of nature and Salem district with a number of temples of architectural and Sculptural beauty added with the local festivals have attracted the tourists to this part of the country. Tourist flow and distribution of hotel facilities have been collected from the office of the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation at Salem. Around 100 tourists were interviewed for this purpose using a pre tested questionnaire. The respondents were selected at random. The data collected are processed and summarized by using suitable cartographic techniques.
